The Basics
Number of Systems: 18
Number of Games: 367
When did you start collecting? Seriously collecting about 2006
What was your first system? Nintendo Entertainment System
What was your first game? Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt
When did you feel a tipping point from gamer to both gamer and game collector?
I feel you're a collector when you begin to search for specific titles that peak your interest. A collector must always have a self gratifying feeling and sense of pride about his or her collection.
When did that moment occur for you? Was it at a certain number of games? Or were you hunting for a particular title?
When I had that little fuzzy feeling inside of pride in my collection.
What are your goals as a game collector, how have you developed them, and how do you feel about your progress toward them?
I want to amass a collection of games that span all genres and trends in history to give my children something to explore and learn about. I've always wanted to have my kids get excited about old games.
Have you succeeded?
Haven't become a father yet. I've got a long way to go.
That's pretty forward thinking man. How many games, systems, etc. are "enough"?
How many games, systems, etc. are there?
What's your proudest moment as a game collector?
I'm always proud whenever anyone comes over and finds something that they loved to play as a child or teenager.
Heh, that's why I have Bulls vs. Lakers and a good sum of Madden games -- not for me but for my friends. What's your least proud moment as a game collector?
Trading away a ton of hard to find games for money to buy an iPod.
Ouch. Amongst your non-gaming friends are you proud of your collection or is it something you don't bring attention to?
I'm extremely proud of it and my non-gaming friends know me as a giant nerd. They always enjoy coming over to tinker with my NES or Wii though.
What's your favorite part of your collection?
I have a few games I'm proud of. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, and Planescape: Torment
What would you like to improve in your collection?
I want to get a hold of a lot more PS1 and PS2 games. I would help to own more than one PS3 game as well.
Which PS3 game do you currently have?
Eye of Judgement... Played it once, couldn't be bothered to set up the camera again.
What would you like to get rid of in your game collection within the next year?
The lack of space... That definately has to go.
What do you think was your best deal while game buying?
Gunpey DS for $1.50 brand new. That's pretty killer.
What do you feel is the most valuable and/or rare item in your collection
Perhaps Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. Mint with Soundtrack.
What item in your collection do you feel you overpaid for?
Pokemon Stadium for the N64
How much did you pay?
$100 when it came out. That game wasn't worth that money, but I was a pokemon junky and it was supposed to be good.
What do you feel is the strangest or weirdest item in your collection?
Sunshine 64. Japanese import Puyo Pop... Guh! Fuh... Wuh?
What item(s) do you not have in your collection that people are surprised to hear you don't have?
Disgaea PS2. An Atari 2600. Contra for the NES
Where/how do you store it all?
I have little nooks all over my room for smaller games and accessories. My controllers are in a bin under my futon and my cables for the systems are in another bin. I have two shelves for some of my games and my PC games are boxed up or in a drawer. The rest of the stuff is in one of my linen closets.
Is there anyway you'd ever stop collecting?
Only if Miyamoto comes to my house, slaps me in the face, and says that video games are useless.
Do you have a funny story about your collection?
Every single time somone comes over to my house and looks at my collection for the first time, they immediately spot Magic the Gathering: Battlegrounds for the Xbox and give me the "What's with that?" look.
(Laughs) Have you ever had to move your collection to another house? What was it like?
Haven't had to move yet... It was hard!
If you're significant other told you no more games, what would you do?
"No more games for me? Fine... No more food for you!"
What percentage of your games are still sealed?
0% I open my games as soon as I get them home. It's a honeymoon experience for me.
What percentage of your game have you actually played? Completed?
I've played maybe 70% of my games, if at least for 5 mins each. I've completed perhaps 15%.
